What an exciting week in Reception. Our learning project ‘Building the World’ has provided lots of opportunities for the children to talk and share experiences of countries and cities.
Phonics
In phonics, we have been working on Unit 11, where we have been learning the sounds ‘ck’, ‘sh’, and ‘ch’. We have been building words such as ‘luck’, ‘fish’ and ‘chin’.

Writing for Pleasure
In Writing for Pleasure, we have continued working on our journey books. We have had some great ideas for where our characters go on their journeys. We have drawn a colourful picture on each page, before saying our sentence into our pencil microphone, then using our phonics to write down the sounds we can hear in the words. We have also enjoyed using our special finger space pom pom to help us remember to use finger spaces between each word.
Handwriting
This week we have been practicing our letter formation carefully. Please continue to encourage handwriting at home, especially the abracadabra letters. You can continue to practice handwriting at home using the following sheets:

Maths
In maths, children have used practical contexts to sort items. They then used their sorting skills to investigate ways to sort the Numberblocks characters, using their previous experience of investigating doubles to practically explore odd and even numbers.
Botley the Robot
The children have continued to explore Botley the Robot this week, and have enjoyed getting to know how the robot works through play. Children have continued to work in groups to plan and build their choice of buildings ready for Botley City.
Junk Modelling Resources
We are making our building creations for Botley City, so if you have any boxes at home which you are planning to recycle, please do bring them into school for the children to use in their making. We would love to use them to make Botley City!
