It’s been another fantastic week in Reception! We are really enjoying this term’s learning project ‘Building the World’ and we have continued to explore maps and the globe, learning about lots of different cities and places around the world.
Phonics
In phonics, we have been working on Unit 10, where we have been looking at CCVCC and CCCVC words. The children have done really well building the longer words using 5 letters. Our high frequency word this week has been ‘to’.

Writing for Pleasure
In Writing for Pleasure, we have started working on our journey books. We have thought about the character or characters we would like to have in our books and where they will go on a journey in the story. We have made our front covers, making sure to include a title, a colourful picture, our author names and the book’s birthday, and we have made the first page of the story too. We are looking forward to continuing the stories next week!
Handwriting
This week we have been practicing our letter formation carefully. Please continue to encourage handwriting at home, especially the abracadabra letters. You can continue to practice handwriting at home using the following sheets:

Maths
In maths, we’ve been working on our visualising skills. We have used manipulatives and pictorial representatives to build on previous experiences of dice patterns and numbers of fingers to explore doubling to 10.
Botley the Robot
The children loved meeting Botley the Robot and we have started thinking about what buildings we would like to make in our table groups. Thank you to those families who have sent in a photo of their child with their favourite building. If you haven’t had a chance yet, please do send us a photo on Tapestry.
Junk Modelling Recources
As we are starting to make our building creations for Botley City, if you have any boxes at home which you are planning to recycle, please do bring them into school for the children to use in their making. We would love to use them to make Botley City!
