This half term our project is ‘All About Animals’! We have been talking about lots of different types of animals, and this week we have been focusing on sea animals. The children have been enjoying exploring books and pictures of animals and using their language skills to describe them.
Phonics
In phonics, we have been working on Unit 6 focusing on the sounds j, w and z. The children are building words like ‘jug’, ‘zap’, ‘win’, and learning to read simple sentences. We’re also practicing our high-frequency word: ‘was’.

Writing for Pleasure
For Writing for Pleasure, the children have continued to enjoy our book making sessions. This week we have been learning how to add our book’s birthday, learning about the rules of bookmaking and thinking carefully about how to check whether our book is finished. The children have really impressed us with all their books this week.

This week we have been practicing the letters j, w and z. You can continue to practice handwriting at home using the following sheets:

Maths
This week in maths, we’ve been thinking about the composition of 5, 6 and 7. We have been using different types of visuals and objects to represent the numbers and thinking about how to show them on our hands in different ways.
PSHE
We have been thinking about all the different things our bodies can do, thinking about the different parts and seeing how we can move our bodies in different ways.
