This week, we have been looking at artists and we have discovered all about the life and work of Frida Kahlo and Pablo Picasso. Children enjoyed looking at different works of art and using their language skills to describe and write down how they made them feel.
Phonics
In phonics, we have been working on Unit 5 focusing on the sounds k, l, r, and u. The children are building words like ‘kip,’ ‘tug,’ ‘rat,’ and learning to read simple sentences. We’re also practicing our high-frequency word: ‘are’.
Writing for Pleasure
For Writing for Pleasure, the children have continued to enjoy our book making sessions! This week we have been thinking about how to use our phonics skills to write down some words in our books to tell our story. We say the word slowly, listen carefully for sounds, use our sound mat to find the letter, and then write it down. The children have really impressed us with all their books this week.
Handwriting
This week we have been practicing the letters r, u, l and k. You can continue to practice handwriting at home using the following sheets:

Maths
This week in maths, we’ve been practising our one to one correspondence, putting numbers into the correct order and thinking about what is one more and one less than a number.
PSHE
We have been thinking about noticing others, using names and inviting our peers to join in, so that everyone feels included.
Important Reminder: PE After Half Term
We’ll be starting PE sessions after the February half term, so please ensure your child has their PE kit in school. We’ll be doing some sessions outside, and as it may be a little colder than we’d hoped, please make sure their kit is weather appropriate.
