The sun may be making an appearance, but here in Reception we have been learning about all the interesting animals that come out in the dark of the night. We have had a go at guessing which animals are nocturnal, diurnal and crepuscular. We read Night Animals by Gianna Marino and had a giggle at the fact that all of the night animals were afraid of each other!
How many nocturnal animals can reception remember?
(They have learnt all about foxes, owls, bats, hedgehogs, badgers, moths and racoons)
We have loved exploring our fine motor skills in the outdoor area this week!
In phonics, we have been learning how to write 5 letter words. This is a new and exciting challenge for us, here are some of the words we’ve practiced: frost, steps grand. As well as writing some longer sentences e.g. The cat jumps off the well.
In handwriting, we have been learning about the slider family: k, v, w, x, z. Please see handwriting sheets below if you would like to continue practicing at home.

In Math’s, we have been learning about the composition of 5!
We can tell you that 5 is made of 3 and 2 and that 5 is made of 4 and 1. To help us learn we sung ‘5 Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed’ and represented our mathematical thinking on a dice frame and tens frame.
In PSH CE, we have learnt the importance of hand-washing and personal hygiene.
