What a busy week we’ve had! Here’s a glimpse into all the exciting learning happening in our classroom this week.
Our Focus Story: Home
We’re exploring a lovely book called Home this week. The children have been thinking about different types of homes and how they would feel living in unusual places – like a giant’s home or a dinosaur’s home! It’s been wonderful to hear their imaginative ideas during our circle time discussions.

Handwriting Adventures
The children are continuing their handwriting journey with our fun letter families! This week we’re practising the letters /a/ /i/ /m/ /t/ /s/

We use creative actions and rhymes to help the children remember how to form each letter. You might hear them talking about pulling around and pushing or doing a “down-bump” and “flick”!
Phonics
In phonics, we’re working with the sounds /a/ /i/ /m/ /s/ /t/. The children are building words like “sat,” “mat,” “sit,” and “it.” We’re also practising our sentence dictation – it’s wonderful to see their confidence growing!
Maths
This week’s maths focus is all about counting! The children are learning that:
- The last number in a count tells us “how many altogether”
- We can count things we can see, hear, and even sounds
- Counting carefully means touching or moving each object once
We’ve introduced a special counting puppet who needs the children’s help to learn to count properly. They’ve been brilliant teachers! We’re also exploring patterns with dots and learning about spatial arrangements.
PSHCE
In our PSHCE time, we read I Am Too Absolutely Small For School and talked about how Lola felt worried about starting school. The children shared their own memories and discussed how we can all help new children feel welcome and happy in our classroom.
Drawing Club
Our Drawing Club theme is all about shows and performances! We’re learning new vocabulary like “rehearsal,” “stage,” “perform,” and “ensemble,” and the children are creating their own show characters.
Other Highlights
- Daily singing with action songs like “Clap Clap” and “One Finger, One Finger”
- Nativity rehearsals are beginning – thank you for all the practise that you are also doing at home!
- School is closed on Friday 21st November. No reading book change next week.
- Reading books will next be collected in on Thursday 27th November.
How You Can Help at Home
- Ask your child about our focus story Home – what type of home would they like to live in?
- Practise counting everyday objects together (up to 5)
- Listen for those phonics sounds in words around you
- Encourage pencil control through colouring and drawing
