This week’s story was the very delightful Farmyard Jamboree by Margaret Reed MacDonald. The story introduces kids to some farm animals, their babies and counting up to 16. Have a listen here and join the dancing!
We have also enjoyed singing lots of animal songs and tried to move like them – bouncing like a kangaroo, shuffling like a penguin and galloping like a horse. In phonics, we have started to count and spot syllables in words. I wonder if you can count how many syllables are in your name? Can you clap them too? Can you tap them on your lap?
We have been looking at life cycles with the children, and some groups have started planting their potatoes. We estimated how many potatoes we will grow in our pot. In the next few weeks we will be planting some flower seeds too and send them home with the children.
Have you got a garden, an allotment, a balcony or a windowsill to plant things? It is a fantastic activity with children, to learn about seeds, bulbs and growing things. You could start with some cress seeds on a tissue paper or a few beans under cotton wool.
In the next few weeks we will be exploring pets, have you got a pet at home? Last year we had visiting stick insects, they were very interesting to look at. Mrs Campbell has had giant African snails, a three-legged bunny, hamsters, fish and some pet rats. Ms Phillips has three beautiful kittens. What are your favourite pets?
A reminder to make sure children have WELLIEBOOTS at school, and SPARE CLOTHES. Also, with the arrival of the good weather, children should have LABELLED SUNHAT and LABLLED SUNCREAM in nursery. On a sunny day, please apply suncream on your child before arriving to nursery. Children will be then reapplying their own suncream after lunch (with adult guidance).
