Our story this week is a brilliant story about a father and daughter relationship, called Hair Love’ by Matthew A. Cherry. You can watch the Oscar winning short film of the book here:

Linking with the book we have set up a hairdressing salon, to celebrate our own unique hair. Children can practice their fine motor skills to put in bobbles, hairclips, to plat, curl and twist. They really loved making different hairstyles and inviting an adult to get a pretend haircut!
We are continuing to explore the new season through conker paint rolling and a vegetable printing. Next week we would love to continue exploring autumn so any vegetable contributions would be appreciated – in their play, the children have loved touching, smelling and selling/buying a variety this week! If you have a spare pumpkin or marrow to donate, we would love to have them!
As part of celebrating Black History Month, we have been using djembe drums to do lots of drumming, practicing our listening, responding and keeping a steady beat. If you can play the drum and would like to join us for a short session, please let one of the staff members know.
In our small group time, we had a visit from George Bear, who helped us embed our carpet time rules. We always try our best to do good sitting, listening, looking at the person who is talking and not interrupting others when they talk. We play a lot of turn taking games, encouraging children to wriggle their fingers if they would like to have a go.
We have also discussed how to play safely in Nursery and how to find a safe adult to ask help from or talk to when we need something. You can find our Inprint symbols on Tapestry, so you can go through them with your child at home.
Thank you again for the yummy fruit and snacks you bring in to share! We always welcome these healthy contributions.
As the weather is getting rainy and windy, please remember to bring in a named pair of wellie boots and waterproof clothes for your child. We have access to the outdoors for most of the day and children love exploring puddles at the moment.
If you can, please donate socks and underwear as we are running very low on these spare items.
Remember it is a short week, the school is closed for students on Friday.
