Meadows enjoyed a sunny week full of learning and fun!
The book of the week was Lola Gets a Cat by Anna McQuinn, which tells the story of a little girl practicing pet ownership with her toy cat before getting a real one! We used a weekly planner board calendar to help us remember to feed and take care of the cat just like Lola did in the book! Why don’t you try a similar activity at home to help your little one remember the things they need to do, e.g. brush their teeth, or take the pet for a walk together to help them grow their sense of responsibility?
Inside, we have been learning about animal habitats and looking at the different footprints that animals leave on sand, playdough and clay! We continued to practice our pattern making at the Maths table using all kinds of resources e.g pebbles, leaves, buttons etc. We also started to identify smaller numbers within a number e.g by actively singing 5 Little Speckled Frogs (how many still on the log and how many in the pool?) or by arranging the spots on a ladybird’s wings in different ways!
Outside, we carried on talking about life cycles, planting our potatoes and making ESTIMATIONS (eeek what a long and interesting word!) of how many potatoes will grow eventually! We have also started planting sunflower seeds in individual pots, which we will take home next week! Another excellent opportunity to support the children’s growing understanding of what it means to care for a living thing!
During our final week before the Easter holiday, we will be hosting another exciting Family Friday between 8:30-9:00am. Please, join us to look at your child’s book and celebrate their learning!
A kind reminder that on Family Friday we will be finishing early at 13:30.
