This week in Meadows we have been continuing our project on ‘All Creatures Great and Small’, looking at the swirl of snail shells and reading ‘Snail Trail’. We set up our own trail outside, went up the hill, slid down a slide, went through a tunnel and quietly tiptoed through the forest. Can you make an obstacle course at home, using pillows and ribbons to jump on or balance across? Can you do one in your garden or visit a trim trail at a playground? Encourage your child to use their balancing skills, making them more confident in their motor skills and spatial awareness.
During our outdoor learning, we have been looking out for birds and making fat ball feeders for them. Children mixed cooked rice, seeds and fat in a bowl, and adults rolled out some balls which they placed up onto trees and rooftops. We have spotted some magpies, robins and blackbirds coming to eat!
This term we are starting to talk about rhyming words via lots of singing and playing rhyming games. Hearing and using rhyme, rhythm and repetition helps children develop early literacy skills. This repetition is important for early brain development, as it creates secure foundations for learning how to read and write.
In our key times this week we discuss questions like: What does my body look like? What can my body do? What differences and similarities are there between our bodies? We name our external body parts and talk about privacy and encourage children to say NO to things we do not want. We remind children to say STOP if they do not like something and ask adults for help when something happens that makes them feel sad or uncomfortable.

Next week we will be moving onto learning all about ladybirds and our teeth! We will be reading ‘What the Ladybird Heard’ and doing lots of spot counting.
Please send in your child’s toothbrush and toothpaste in a labelled bag on Tuesday and Thursday, we are going to get brushing!
