What a lovely week full of sunshine and wholesome outdoor play!
This week we have been planting our sunflower seeds and have already seen some of them germinate. It is very exciting to see new life appearing, blossom and leaves on the trees, tadpoles in the ponds, beans and seeds sawn in pots. Feel free to share your photos if you are growing something or have spotted something growing while out and about.
Our story this week was the Great Pet Sale, by Mick Inkpen, which is about pets being sold in a shop as they need to be rehomed. We have met a salamander, a terrapin, gecko and even a comodo dragon! Here is a video of the story you can watch online: The great pet sale 🐁👦🏻💲
This story wonderfully links in with counting in ones from 1 to 5 and to 10 and also with listening out and recognising initial sounds. Playing games at home like “I spy” is great, as it teaches children to be able to isolate individual sounds. This skill is called phonemic awareness and is a necessary component in learning to read later.
Have you got a pet at home? These are Mrs Campbell’s family rats, Oreo and Pickles. They are very clever and like snuggling up in Mrs Campbell’s daughters’ jumpers:)
We enjoyed lots of outdoor time this week, feeding the birds, watching the blossom grow in our forest area, singing some bunny and chicken songs to celebrate spring. Have a sneaky peak of our robin’s nest in our forest area. How many little eggs can you count?
