Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

This and the previous week, the children in the Nursery have been learning about the 3 important words which all start with a ‘Rrrrr’ sound to help protect the environment: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! We talked about ways we can:

-Use less’ e.g turn the lights off when it is sunny or when we play outside.

-Give old items a new life e.g use our cereal boxes to make a junk model

-Recycle things, which means we first need to know what items are made of and then put them in the appropriate bin so they can be recycled later and turned into something new!

We have also started exploring different means of transport with the story of the week being: Mr Gumpy’s Motor Car by John Burningham. It seemed he and his friends would have a lovely trip on a sunny day until the weather turned into a rainstorm, and everyone had to help get the car out of the mud! Luckily, there was still enough time for a swim at the end as the sun came out again!

Outside, we continued exploring forces e.g pulling & pushing while getting very artistic, making marks on a sheet with socks! Little did we know that the children would invent other ways of using the paint… AKA handprints! We will continue similar activities over the next weeks to make sure every child has an opportunity to experience different painting styles and textures!

During our carpet times, the children started creating sound patterns, building on previous knowledge, using their hands and voices. They also kept practicing clapping the sounds in their own names and counting the syllables!

As we progress throughout the year the children have becoming increasingly able to resolve their own disagreements independently. During our keys time we have been discussing about the different emotions we might experience and how we can identify them in other people and ourselves. Developing emotional intelligence at an early stage is crucial for children  as it links to self-regulation and increased attention skills.

This week we were also very excited to start our TastEd sessions! The focus of our first lesson was to use all our senses to explore different apples and use our words to express the ways in which different apple varieties can taste, look, feel, sound and smell different! How exciting! The long-term aim of TastEd is to help children reduce pickiness and discover a love of a wide range of healthy food.

As we move to warmer weather can we please ask our families that all children are sent with a sun hat, a suncream and a pair of wellies to safely enjoy water play outside?

Finally, we would like to kindly ask for contributions to enhance our mud kitchen, which has proved to be a beloved and popular paly area in the Nursery during all year. We are looking for:

-All kinds of kitchen utensils

-Cupcake cases, moulds, beach toys e.g. ice cream cones
