This week we have been celebrating road safety with activities and resources to develop the children’s awareness of roads and traffic rules and how to keep safe. We talked about the importance of holding an adult’s hand when crossing a road and that we should use the pavement to walk safely and not as a playground! We also practiced ‘reading’ the traffic lights through engaging and funny games. We also continued exploring ways and materials to build structures like bridges or towers, as well as hiding ourselves in large cardboard boxes. This type of play can be really useful as it allows children to develop their spatial awareness and problem-solving skills! You might see them enclosing items in boxes or other containers or even wrapping themselves or their toys in fabrics, so please encourage and support these playful behaviours!
This week’s book was ‘Peace at Last’ by Jill Murphy, a wonderful story about the noises in the lovely bear house, which kept Mr Bear awake! This book also provides a nice opportunity for the children to practice the names of the different rooms of a house!
As the children become more familiar with each other and more confident in their play, we have also started exploring the different aspects of friendship e.g. empathy, communication, problem-solving etc to help them navigate their feelings and social interactions more effectively.
As we enter a period of wintry weather, please remember to send your child to the nursery with adequate layers and a warm coat and hat to protect them while playing outside. Please, also be aware that Friday 22/11 is Research Day and the school will be closed.
