The children’s laughter, songs and stories filled this week with Christmas joy and excitement!
At the writing corner, the little hands got busy ‘writing’ letters to Santa, while at the crafts table, festive necklaces and bracelets were in full swing! We also practiced our fine motor skills by decorating little 2d Christmas trees with pom poms, using tweezers and continued developing our ‘maths eyes’ by playing subitizing games with numbers 1-5! Maths is everywhere around us, why don’t you try to discover its magic this Christmas with your child: count the plates while you are setting the table, discuss the shapes of the Christmas ornaments or find out who got the bigger piece of the Christmas pudding! Modelling mathematical language such as ‘more, bigger, less, half, fewer, add, combine’ will help to extend your child’s knowledge and build their confidence in their own ability to use maths!
The book of the week was: ‘Little Robin Red Vest’, a lovely story about a little bird which kindly offers his vests to help the animals it comes across, who are all cold! A story to remind us to spread kindness and joy, especially during the festive season!
Outside, we have been building Santa’s sleighs, singing carols in the forest and making magic Christmas pies at the mud kitchen!
During the next term we will be talking about the present and the past, may we please ask all the families to bring a photo of their child as a baby, during the week commencing on 06/01/25. We kindly remind you that the 6th and 7th of January are staff training days, and the school will be closed.
