Welcome to our weekly learning update!
This week we continued to share the story of Goldilocks, which brought up several points of discussion:
- We don’t all come in one size! We enjoyed conversations with the children regarding our age, the different characteristics we might have and how we might like things differently!
- Our actions might hurt other people or make them sad…Little did Goldilocks know when she went into the house of the 3 Bears that they would feel upset because someone had been eating their porridge!
- It is always better to deal with a situation than run away from it! The children are continuously supported to use their words to resolve disagreements and make sure they are using their kind words and gentle hands to communicate with each other.
As we continue to develop our knowledge of mixing and dissolving, this week we observed the colors from small candies dissolve into lukewarm water or milk and form a wonderful rainbow before they all mixed together and turned into a lovely brown color! The children made predictions, as the experiment was progressing, about what might happen: ‘The colours will come out’, ‘The colours will mix’, ‘They will not mix’, ‘They will be brown!’. We loved listening to their ideas and explanations!
Outside, we enjoyed a glorious mud play, where even the most reluctant children had a go and turned muddy and … happy! Why don’t you have a look at our Tapestry post to enjoy some of our highlights?
Songs with rhymes, clapping syllables and parachute games were also on full swing this week! The children are becoming more comfortable with the concept of rhyming and have started to come up with their own real and non-real words to engage in rhyme games.
With temperatures rising even more from next week, please can we remind you to bring your child in with light clothes, sunhats and a layer of suncream already applied.
