🌼 Nursery Weekly Blog – Week Commencing 27th April
This week the children explored rhymes, syllables, and initial sounds through our daily group songs and games. They particularly enjoyed counting syllables in their own names and spotting them in familiar words.
In maths we explored objects that sink or float at the water trays! We also introduced 3D shapes, using building blocks, wooden and plastic models, and outdoor play to describe shape and structure with words like curved, flat, and pointy.
In our PSED (Personal, Social and Emotional Development) sessions, we focused on recognising and talking about feelings — happy, sad, excited, worried, and angry — and thinking about what might make us or our friends feel that way. “How do you feel today?” became our morning question, helping the children build emotional vocabulary and empathy.
Our story of the week: And the Train Goes…, by William Bee, helped us connect language and movement! The children loved acting out the story, counting along, and clapping syllables as trains “chugged” and boats “rowed.” We also enjoyed a sweet story outside with our special visitor Marion Leaper in the forest! How exciting it was to make our own puppets using sticks and yarn!
We continued to observe out caterpillars, spinning their cocoons and transforming into chrysalises and we already have 2 lovely butterflies in the nets! Let’s see how many more will pop out during the long weekend!
We wrapped up the week with lots of singing, keeping our voices lively and rhythmic!
