This week we moved on to looking at trains as part of our transport topic. We have loved making our own trains, using crates and boxes and barrelts outside. We have also tried being train conductors, drivers and writing and punching our own train tickets! Our story for this week, ‘And the train goes…’ is a lovely book about what we might experience on a train journey, with lots of opportunities to make different sounds. Can you make some environmental sounds during your journeys? What sounds can you hear on your way home from nursery?

For outdoor learning, we have been learning about ‘stick rules’ and finding our own sticks that we could then decorate or use in our play. Do you collect forest treasures when you are out and about? Why don’t you upload a photo of your collection or something that you make using sticks, leaves or feathers. Remember the NO PICK, NO LICK rule! We only pick treasures off the ground, not breaking flowers, twigs off trees. Also, we must not put anything in our mouth! Our sticks should be no longer than our forearms. Children took turns in measuring the length of their stick and breaking it into a smaller, safer size.
Next week we are welcoming some very exciting visitors to our school. A mobile farm will pay a visit on Monday, and children will have the opportunity to feed and stroke some farm animals. The farm will visit again later in the school year on a Thursday to make sure that students attending the second half of the week can have the experience as well.
