This week we have been reading Innosanto Nagara’s book, Counting on Community. Children can count from 1 Pinata, through muddy boots, plates of food on the table to 10 hefty hens. While reading the book we are encouraged to recognise the values in our community and how we can count on each other. The book reflects on diversity and offers examples of fun activities towards making positive changes.

Counting on Community by Innosanto Nagara
This week we are continuing with our Christmas craft activities, making paper chain and punching cards for decorations, decorating a Christmas tree, writing cards to our friends and families. We have been wrapping boxes and putting pretend presents under the tree, which links in our Maths focus about shapes. Can you make a bag of different shaped objects and take turns in describing what you can feel without looking in the box? Is it round, is it square? Can you feel a smooth surface or a rough one? Can you guess what is a wrapped present, based on their shape?
