Welcome to Meadows, we are excited to have our new families starting with us this term!
The first weeks were all about helping the children feel welcomed and safe by:
- Building confidence and friendships.
- Exploring our families and what makes us unique.
- Developing listening and speaking skills through stories, songs, and sound games.
- Learning about rules and routines to feel safe and independent.
For those children (and their carers), who have not been into a Nursery before, we know this is a big change in their lives. Feel free to ask the adults in the room any questions.
Our focus stories were: All welcome by Alexandra Penfold, Only one you by by Linda Kranz, Mixed by Arree Chung, Let’s make faces by Hanoch Piven, Dear zoo by Rod Campbell and Owl Babies by Martin Waddell! The children had many opportunities to act out the stories using props and build on their language skills.
Outside, the children made yummy Autumn soups and magic potions at our very popular Mud kitchen, explored how a water pump works and used all kind of blocks to build structures and create their own obstacle courses. We also went for listening walks and talked about the different nature sounds we could hear!
At our science table we took time to observe how a pinecone closes its scales when it is put in the water and how it opens again once it is left to dry! How exciting! We discovered how we can be little scientists from our first weeks!
Snack times: We welcome parents to bring in fruit, vegetables (carrot, cucumber, pepper) or plain crackers for our children to share at Snack Time. These are greatly appreciated, and the children learn a lot about eating healthily and learning to wash and prepare fruit safely. Please keep in mind that we are a nut free school (including sesame seeds and coconut) if you consider sharing snack.
Outside time: We promote play inside and outside in all weather. Please bring in the following items labelled with your child’s name:
- spare clothes and shoes
- water bottle
- wellington boots
- waterproof clothes, coat and trousers
These items can be left on the children’s pegs in a named bag.
We strongly advise our families NOT to encourage their children to bring toys/objects from home as they might get broken or lost. There will be an opportunity for your child to share their beloved items from home once it is their focus week!
We will aim to let you know how their day has gone at pick up time, but please do support us by sharing any information that will help us keep your child safe and happy.
