This week in Nursery has been full of learning, creativity and important discussions.
The children were introduced to clay play, exploring texture, shape and their own creative ideas. They combined different materials developing their fine motor skills, and practised good hygiene routines. During these playful moments we encouraged them to use key vocabulary which is related to our termly theme: Me and my house e.g. house, roof, chimney, windows, doors, roof and different rooms like kitchen, living room, bedroom, and bathroom. The book: Peace at last by Jill Murphy helped us recap this vocabulary while listening to the adventures of Mr. Bear who only wanted to get some sleep!
As part of our PSED focus, we started talking about what might make us feel happy or sad and shared our excited, surprised and angry faces! Why don’t you ask your child what might have made them feel happy or not so happy this week? Discussing feelings and recognizing emotions is crucial in Early Years as it fosters empathy, promotes self-awareness and supports self-regulation skills.
It was also Road Safety Week, and the children took part in discussions about staying safe near roads. Through playful activities and games we practised our spatial awareness and used positional language e.g. on, under, on top, between etc. We learned about the Stop, Look, Listen rule, talked about zebra crossings, and explored the idea of “Be bright, be seen” by playing an interactive game!
It was a busy, joyful week of hands-on experiences, rich vocabulary, and growing independence. We can’t wait to see where the children’s curiosity takes us next week!
