It’s been another great week in Reception with lots of outdoor and indoor playful learning, and we have continued our ‘Building the World’ project learning about the world around us.

Phonics

In phonics, we have continued working on Unit 11, and we have been learning the sounds ‘th’, ‘ng’, and ‘wh’. We have been building words such as ‘this’, ‘sing’ and ‘when’.

If you are interested in learning more about how we teach phonics in Reception please watch these videos of Miss Johal teaching some Sounds Write phonics lessons.

Writing for Pleasure

In Writing for Pleasure, we have continued working on our journey books. We have been revising our stories and checking that we have remembered all the elements we have talked about like capital letters, finger spaces, full stops.

Handwriting

This week we have been practicing our letter formation carefully. Please continue to encourage handwriting at home, especially the abracadabra letters. You can continue to practice handwriting at home using the following sheets:

Maths

This week in maths, the children have continued to develop their subitising skills in increasingly complex arrangements. A key focus for this week was using the children’s developing understanding of doubles to support their subitising skills. The children have developed their understanding of number to help support future calculation strategies.

Botley the Robot

The children have continued to explore Botley the Robot this week, and have enjoyed getting to know how the robot works through play. Children have continued to work in groups to plan and build their choice of buildings ready for Botley City.

Junk Modelling Resources

We are making our building creations for Botley City, so if you have any boxes at home which you are planning to recycle, please do bring them into school for the children to use in their making. We would love to use them to make Botley City!

Well done everyone on a great week. Wishing you a lovely weekend.
