Year 1 Weekly Update
Dragonflies and Butterflies have had a wonderful time visiting the Botanic Gardens over the last two weeks. A huge thank you to all the children for their excellent behaviour, and to our parent volunteers who helped make the trips such a success. Bumblebees are really looking forward to their turn next Wednesday!
In maths, we have been learning how to manipulate numbers within 20. The children should now have a good understanding of adding numbers to make 20 and subtracting numbers from 20. Please keep practising this mental maths over the Easter holidays—it really does make a big difference. You could count objects, write calculations, draw pictures, make part whole models or sing songs about the numbers that make 20!
In writing, we have been working on a mini project focusing on end punctuation. The children have been learning how to use exclamation marks, full stops, and question marks correctly to complete their sentences. At school, children are encouraged to write for pleasure, and it would be wonderful if you could support this at home too.
