We’ve had an exciting week of learning in Year 2!
In English, we kicked off our new writing project by delving into traditional tales. The children explored various characters and stories, brainstorming ideas to create their own unique twists. Next week, we’ll continue our journey through these classic tales and begin drafting our own imaginative stories. It’s going to be a fun and creative adventure!
In phonics: In phonics, we’ve been reviewing the /air/ sound and introducing the new /ae/ sound. This week, we focused on identifying words that contain the /ae/ sound but are spelled in various ways. The children practiced recognizing these different spellings and blending them into their reading and writing.
In maths, we have been reviewing our learning on the place value of two-digit numbers and have been using the stem sentence : I have ___ tens and __ ones. I have ___. Please find the maths sheets here if you want to recap these with your children: Maths Sheets Place Value W2
In STEM, we’ve been investigating the properties of different materials and how these properties affect their performance. The children thoroughly enjoyed conducting experiments to explore these concepts. They learned how to design and carry out fair tests, gaining hands-on experience in scientific inquiry and critical thinking. It’s been a fantastic week of discovery and experimentation!

Thank you to those who have ensured that your child has a full and clearly named P.E kit in school at all times. As the weather begins to turn slightly cooler, please send in warmer track suit bottoms and a hooded zippy. A gentle reminder that ONLY school kit colours please (white T-shirt and navy/black bottoms and zippy in a draw string bag, not a rucksack as storage space is limited.)
Reading books will be sent home next week.
There is no need to bring in wellington boots at the moment. We will inform you when Forest School begins. If you have been super prepared and brought them in already, thank you, but please take them home until further notice.
